261.365 + DAY.627 + D7H30121

261.365 + DAY.627 + D7H30121

that's it, no more 365: I quit

... once the penny dropped over the last few days that this was not actually the project I set out to do, I understood why I was no longer enjoying it.

I have a burning desire to get on with some other photo projects, sort out my website, get back to my running, etc., etc., etc., that completing this year's 365, shooting those final 115 images, would be for absolutely no reason.

I'm not on day 254, I'm on day 620.

I am now 90 weeks (52+38) into the project I set out to do: a weekly self portrait
... and I have no website to display those images!
That may well be the first web project I start this weekend.

I have a few tweaks to make to some of my old websites, a few fixes to some dead links, and some 'about' content to do and then I can get back to what was my passion: shooting for my web. I used to enjoy designing my website as much as I did shooting. I want that back.

I set up a home studio early 2008 in order to learn how to shoot with studio lights, I'm happy that I've done that. And I might post some 'content' type pages to my website, some how-to, get some of my 22 years of shooting experience on-line, it might prove interesting to some?

That studio was designed with the aim of shooting other people, and there I've pretty well failed. I still don't know how to do it. I'm 4 shots into my 100 strangers and I'd like to pursue that.

Flickr has been wonderful for the 21 months that I've been playing. And I thank you all for the fun that you have made it and for the inspiration that you have given me. This time I'm not going to name any names, just thank all the people that viewed my stuff and commented with one word or a mini story. Its the interactive part of photography that I really wanted to find. THANK YOU.

I've now had 110 in Explore and am rather pleased that some of them are of things other than self portraits. I've had images from my main camera (D700 for the last year), my compact (G10), and even my mobile phone (w350i) land on Explore! The thing that my old (deleted) design website lacked was any ability to get feedback on my images. Flickr is so that for me now. So I will continue to post and browse and comment and play on Fickr. Joining Flickr has taught me to look at an image and enjoy it and be inspired by it. I might even make a weekly self portrait group, although that might wait until 2010.

I'm a 'projects' shooter, I've done OktoberFest (something I set-up, shoot one lens and no other lens for a whole month), I've done week50mm, I've done day50mm ... and I tried LongestDay (but shot for 12 hrs and not 24hr) ... so I will continue to shoot projects. I have to have one on the go. First up will be my website, work on my archives, add some text/content to a how-to website ... bursting with ideas ...

... and now I am free

PS - I will continue to keep my little 365x2009 group open until year end as planned.

experiment gone bad

experiment gone bad

So my thought was to set up my camera to take interval photos of my NIA class creating a little video-like segment for my NIA instructor Maggie to use on her web site. Unfortunately my camera does not have that function. My son was kind enough to lend me his Nikon D300 and before he left he gave me a brief lesson on how to use it. I was all set or so I thought. I brought my tripod to class, set it up and since I had done the settings at home, I thought I was good to go. Unfortunately, that was not so. Instead of taking a shot a minute, it took a shot a second. And I had it on automatic focus and it should have been on manual (something Lee and I realized after I showed him the 345 photos I took on interval setting). And to top it all off, the lights at the back of the room gve some really blown out areas on the floor making everything look muddy. The moral of the story though is to keep trying. I think my next step is to get the Canon program and set it up to a laptop and try again. At least I will have my own camera that I am more familiar with.

This is one shot from that failed experiment.
